Most have heard the expression ‘Time flies when you are having fun.’ It seems life in general has a way of flying by. So often we are caught up in the day to day that we fail to stop and enjoy the small things. A child’s laugh, the warm snuggles of our pets, the soft carass from a spouse or significant other, or the beauty of a freshly snow covered landscape.
I recently heard a woman explain it this way; “When my daughter was born, I held her in my arms and cried like a baby. My husband thought I was being silly and asked way I was carrying on so. I told him that tomorrow she would be grown and getting married. He laughed at me, shook his head, and said that would be 20 years from now. Well, 21 years later standing at the back of the church waiting for the ceremony to start, my husband was the one bawling like a baby. I asked him what was wrong. He replied, it was just yesterday that she was born.”
What a reminder of how quickly things change, children grow up, and we grow older. When was the last time you took a moment to watch children play, your spouse or significant other sleep, a sunrise or a sunset? Jobs, bills, and housework will always be there. But our loved ones and friends will not be. People change, move, and pass away. Time does fly, time is short. Take a moment each day to appreciate someone or something in your life. Make memory. Take a photo. Write a note. Enjoy your life no matter what your circumstance.
